What People Are Saying About Huckleberry

I've been going to the Huckleberry for about five years and it has varied a bit through them all. The atmosphere is awesome: comfortable, relaxed, homey, and cozy. You can even have tea in their small sitting room where they have three huge comfy chairs, which is great. The bathrooms are tiny and a bit smelly, but you can tell they do their best with it. The service varies with your server. The hostess they have had for about the past year is awful and rude. I'm almost scared of her. I've had servers bring the wrong meal. I've had to ask for things twice. I've had vege things come out with meat and soup served cold. BUT usually the staff fixes it fairly well and the food can be incredible. It depends what you get. Their artichoke dip is unlike anywhere else and amazing. Their fried green tomatoes are also different than elsewhere, but very yummy. Mixed berry crepes, french toast, and flapjacks are to die for. Most of their sandwiches are yummy. Their salads are delicious, but small. Their vege gravy is absolutely awful and so is their vege burger. There is usually a wait on weekends. I've had their afternoon tea which was very fun and the pastries they made were yummy. I think their tea is over prices, but good. As it is the same owner as the Dushambe tea house and Leaf in boulder, they all have the same tea menu and the same chai, which i think is great, despite another reviewers opinion. I think it is a great value for the money and i tend to take visitors their. I live in Louisville and there are not so many old town restaurants even worth writing a review about. I recommend eating there, checking it out, but don't go with amazing expectations. It is a local little restaurant with all the ups and downs, if that is what you expect, you'll have a nice experience.

The Huckleberry is a popular brunch spot on weekends, which is no surprise. They have a great location, hearty food, varied high quality tea and dessert choices. If you are impatient or want a quick meal, you may want to try a chain restaurant. If you want good atmosphere, real people running the place and yummy food and drinks, Huckleberry may be for you. Weekend brunch aside, the wait is never long and there are innovative and delicious choices on the menu. The specialty seems to be the breakfast items, but there are excellent sandwiches, burgers and baked goods, plus pasta and more to tempt you. Take a chance and try the tea menu for an incredible range of choices, as you would also find at Dushanbe in Boulder.

My husband daughter and I went to The Huckleberry for breakfast this morning and I was very disappointed with our decision do go there. There was a long wait, but I guess that's expected on a Sunday around lunch time. When we were seated and the waiter came to get our drink order, we were all ready to order food. I ordered tea, their specialty, and it came with an unbelievably dirty glass - I couldn't believe they didn't catch that, it was a clear glass that was so filthy you couldn't see through it. So needless to say we asked for a new one. There was quite a wait for the food and when it arrived I questioned whether I was at a gourmet high class restaurant where the portions intentionally small. My $2.50 side of fruit consisted of two 1/16 inch slices of a very tiny melon and an 1/16 inch slice of an orange. You could see through this fruit! I've had 'garnish' that was more impressive. My husband's meal was quite pathetic as well, especially for the cost. Let's just say there was a lot of plate showing and not so much to satisfy for an eight dollar 'meal'. The manager was walking around and so we expressed our disappointment with the fruit plate and he brought me another tiny slice of melon to remedy it. We won't be returning.
