Great shop--we always get copies of keys made here--and an amazing selection of the best security / lock-related products.
Extremely rude and unprofessional. I will never shop here again. The clerk got upset at me because I mentioned that AAA had just recommended I ask for a certain kind of key for my car. He refused to help me and told me to go elsewhere for a "sloppy job" because that's what I would get if I tried to get my needs met at any other lock shop. I will happily go elsewhere just to be treated kindly and professionally!
Should have read these reviews first – We called City Lock twice to get a quote to re-key an auto lock cylinder. Both times we were quoted $65. Today we went to City Lock and brought the cylinder with us for re-keying. When we were rung up we were told it would be $85. When we challenged Jeff about the two quotes of $65 he denied ever saying it and said his price was $85 period. This was for less than 1 hours work. This guy is pretty proud of what he does at $85 an hour.
Call Kaiser Lock and Key instead!
The client may have mistaken my quote with another, as client called more than once.
We never gave a quote of 65.00, but did provide an ESTIMATE of 85.00, but that we would have to see it to determine for sure.
We did the job right, and did it without delay.
He gets mad if you call after he showers – I called this yahoo on a Saturday and he picked up the phone answering with his business name. I told him what I needed and asked for a ball park figure. He refused to give me one and said that he had just gotten out of the shower on a holiday weekend and therefore he was unable to give me a price. When I told him that was too much information for me as a customer, he continued to talk over me to tell me how much I had inconvenienced him
Most people who call are pleased to get someone who can take the call off hours and help them. Many services can be accurately quoted on the phone, others can not.
We could not accurately quote a service to caller's vehicle based on limited information. We offered to provide a free quote, if vehicle were brought in on the following Monday. Caller pressed for a price, that we could not provide without examining the vehicle.
Overpriced (extremely) – We received a coupon in the mail with City Lock offering to cut a key for $4.95. We had a Lexus blank we wanted cut so my wife took it in and they cut the key. After they cut the key she was presented with a bill.... for over $80! Being sweet and non- confrontational, she paid them and left. That evening, when I learned what had taken place I was very taken back so inquired before calling them and learned I could have had that same key cut for under $30. When I called them they explained that every business can set their own prices and this was their price.
I would NEVER do business with them under ANY circumstances!!!
There was never a coupon for a key at 4.95 or anywhere near that.
Client may be referring to a coupon we have run offering 5.00 OFF any TRANSPONDER key or REMOTE. their key was neither, but we generously accepted the coupon although it was not officially valid for that purchase as a courtesy, and our appreciation.
We did go over pricing BEFORE making the key, and even offered a further discount for a second key. Client had no issue with the price, until the spouse called later on.
It seemed like a miracle – If you are about to be charged a lot of money from a car dealer for replicating a key with a computer chip...go to this brilliant (watch out! he can be grouchy. be clear about what you want) locksmith and be amazed, as I was!! City Lock saved me over a thousand dollars. It was a bright light in a very dark time. After a car smash-in and theft of my purse and car keys, I got the devastating quote from the car dealer for new keys. I called my foreign car mechanic, who suggested I call City Lock. The new quote was hard to believe! I figured it was worth a try, even though the dealer had me believing that I could only get new keys through them. It was like a miracle when I started the car that evening. I'm very grateful!!
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on your experience with my firm.
Unless a firm has an aggressive program to reward online comments, satisfaction rarely motivates a review.
It is a pleasure to help solve both technical problems, and be helpful to resolve the problems people incur.
Most of my clients, such as yourself are well-humored and become my best form of advertisement.
Thank you again, for allowing us to be of service
Hurt and upset – I believe that charging over $160 to change (not fix or repair--just change) a lock on a single door of an apartment is a ridiculous amount of money. I also believe that I was taken advantage of and when I questioned the locksmith he was rude and nasty and frankly I was frightened. I have used numerous locksmiths over the years and nobody has ever charged me this kind of price.
City Lock does not take advantage of clients, have been in business under same management since 1979 and get a significant amount of referral business.
You have the option to bring locks in for re keying, and this can save you considerably. We maintain a shop with regular business hours for those that choose this route.
We carry liability insurance, pay to maintain workman's' compensation, payroll taxes. Not everyone out there is running a correct business, and skips these "inconveniences" of responsible management.
City Lock does NOT advertise as being the cheapest, and we are not. But we do accomplish what others do not, to the delight and sometimes surprise of a hesitant first-time client.
What we can NOT address is "buyers' remorse". If someone shops a lower price, or recalls having once paid less elsewhere... these are NOT necessarily a problem.
Local Lock Savant – They won't sell you a crappy lock just because it's easy to install, they actually seem to care about the safety of everything they recommend! I came in to re-key an older kwikset, but the owner helped me pick a much better lock that wasn't out of my price range (or limited technical expertise!). The locksmith is honest and a big advocate of other local Boulder businesses, too.
My only complaints are a small parking lot (shared with a couple of other nearby businesses), and the limited availability. They'll do most projects you can bring into the shop while you wait, but you'll need to make an appointment for house calls.
I might be biased – I highly recommend this firm, partially because I closely know the owner to be finickier than even the clients, that the job is done right.
If one is not their very own best cheerleader, and critic.... noone else will join along!
City Lock goes above and beyond the REQUIRED expectations on workmanship, product selection, as well as being more than willing to help the DIY'er, and contractor alike.
Everyone is welcome to post their personal experiences, but please put the last 4 digits of work order number, do any concerns that may exist can be addressed. Many products City Lock markets, have lifetime material warranties, or very liberal manufacturer warranties that can be addressed without sending products to factory. This rarely comes up, but occasionally, even the best of products get manufacturer inside-out and backwards !
