What People Are Saying About Peppercorn

In Short – Founded in 1977 as a cooking school and small gourmet kitchen store, Peppercorn now sits somewhere in between mom-and-pop and mega-store. Every available square inch is used for displays of professional-quality Calphalon pots, Henckels cutlery and La Pavoni lever espresso-makers are just a few of the brands. Quality--which can sometimes mean pricey--is the buzzword for the entire spectrum of products, and gourmet is the focus.

Great cooking instruments and gadgets at full price

by nelliey

I have to admit that I am a foodie and love to cook so I enjoy walking the aisles of Peppercorn because of the vast selection of gadgets, utensils, cookbooks, dinnerware, etc. But everything is full retail price or a little more and I almost always know of some other place to get the same merchandise at a discounted rate. So I go to get ideas but unless you want to pay full retail or above I would not recommend buying anything. You will always be able to save money elsewhere for the same quality products. Nothing ever seems to go on sale. If I can't find the same product at another store, I can find it for a cheaper price online....and then it is delivered!

Good for getting ideas.

by wonton_whacker

Everything is overpriced and reeks of snotty, but this is a good place to check out if your grandma's in town or if you feel like being crafty and need some good ideas. Really, with some time and motivation, anyone could make the kind of stuff this place sells.

Guess only the big spenders count!

by mary_tinkcom

I have tried to shop at the Peppercorn a number of times. I started when I was a cooking novice and found the staff pretentious and very dis-interested if I didn't want to purchase only the priciest and "chicest" equipment. While the people in the cook ware and cook book sections are bad, the housewares and china staff are impossible. I actually became disinchanted enough that I would wait to shop until I was on the west coast on business. I also discovered a wonderful alternative in Ft. Collins - much closer to home. Give up the "too cool for you" attitude!

  • Pros: lot of selection, quality goods
  • Cons: poor staff attitude, unfriendly service, overpriced
