Bad Host

I have been going to Foolish Craig?s Cafe for 12 years. The food is always great, had a bad experience on our last trip though. Foolish Craig?s has a great atmosphere. Through the main eating area you can view Pearl Street and since the windows face south, nice sun light shines through the windows. Only problem is when if the host seats you upstairs the atmosphere is lost which is actually what happened to my girlfriend and I last Saturday.
My girlfriend and I have a tradition of driving from Denver to Boulder two or three times in the summer to eat at Foolish Craig?s and hike the Flat Irons. When we got to Foolish Craig?s I asked the host if we could sit at a table on the lower level. There were two three person tables and one five person table that could be divided into two tables. We arrived at 12:30pm way after the morning rush. Instead of letting us sit at a lower level table the host insisted that we sit at a table upstairs because the lower level tables were reserved for groups of three or more. I was fine with that until a decided to use the bathroom. When I got to the lower level I looked at the two three person tables that were available when we came in and there were two, two people groups seated at them. Also the table that could have had been divided was still empty. The host was not nice at all! My 12 year visits to Foolish Craig?s are done!
My days of referring Foolish Craig?s to friends are over. We need to find a new Boulder Breakfast spot!
- Pros: Food - atmosphere
- Cons: Host
If you visit Boulder for a night or more, you must visit Foolish Craig's.

My mother and I found this restaurant by chance when driving down Pearl St. It looked fun and unique so we gave it a shot. The front/outside of the cafe is small but the inside feels relatively roomy. We were asked whether we wanted to sit downstairs or upstairs and then promptly seated upstairs.
The decor is relaxing and cool. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. They have a decent selection of beer on tap and a selection of specials which is updated often. The ingredients are fresh and seasonal. My mother had a grilled chicken salad and she said it was the best one she had on the whole 8 day trip in Colorado. It had a lot of chicken which is a plus.
The salad that came with my entree was fresh and tasty. I had a choice of dressings which all sounded good but I went with the champagne vinaigrette. It was fantastic. I had flank stank cooked medium (came out a bit more rare but I like it like that) on smashed potatoes and surrounded by seasonal vegetables such as pearl onions, Brussels spouts, and carrots. This place reminds me of a restaurant that would be featured on a food network special with Rachel Ray, and I mean that in a good way.
Also, the prices were very reasonable considering the location, decor, and quality of food. If i am ever in Boulder again I would not hesitate to visit Foolish Craig's again...in fact I would plan on it.
- Pros: Fresh and tasty food, simple and relaxing decor, great service.
- Cons: Resteraunt has a small facade, parking is limited.
Awesome service, good food!

This has been one of my favorite casual places to eat in Boulder for so long, and its probably because the manager (owner?) is ridiculously nice to his customers, and so is the rest of the staff. I usually just get a garden burger and fries, but save room for a dessert crepe; this place is all about crepes!
- Pros: service, food, hours
- Cons: parking
