In Short
Frozen in time since the 1870s, virtually every building in this small town above Boulder is made from logs, including the inn. The inn serves a fixed-price multi-course meal that changes nightly. Meals start with a small loaf of homemade bread with butter and jam, followed by an appetizer and soup or salad. The house dressing is a tasty cilantro vinaigrette. Diners choose from five entrees followed by dessert and a cheese-and-fruit tray.

Gold Hill Restaurant is certainly worth the drive. The ambience and service was excellent. Wine was unbelieveable. Some of the seasoning on the food was very different. Not exactly my taste. However, the bread, lentil soup and cheese and fruit was A+.

When to Go:
The inn closes for the winter and reopens in May. The Bluebird Lodge opens occasionally for "murder mystery" events.
Know Before You Go:
Be sure to take a designated driver if you're drinking: The roads are tricky, three miles of them unpaved, and the deer plentiful.
