Best Seafood!. Jax is great and probably the best place to grab seafood in the state. It's a bit small and alot more casual than I pictured but the food was amazing and full of flavor. They have an excellent wait staff and happy hour specials.

Awesome food, Excellent service. I felt the need to share after reading the bad reviews regarding the service. I just got back from dinner and happy hour there, and had excellent service both from the bar, and at the table. The staff from the moment we walked in and were greeted by the hostess, until we left at the end, could not have been more gracious and friendly. The bartender was accomodating and tried to make my friend a grape martini, even though it wasn't on the menu, and even experimented and gave him a sample before making him order. The waiter was excellent and so friendly. The food was great. Being from the east coast, and having been to many restaurants in NYC, this place certainly stacks up, only with better service. My friend had the iceberg lettuce to start, I had the Jax chowder, both great, and large in portions. Then, he had the scallops, and the mushroom bread pudding was unbelievable. I had the special, Jambalya, which was not only large in portion, but delicious. We shared the banana beignets for dessert, and we both were moaning with pleasure! And the bill was completely reasonable, and surprisingly low. We were both so pleased, and happy!

great food, once you get a seat. We went to Jax on Saturday, December 6th. The hostess was pretty bad, and because we weren't sure if we were ordering off the happy hour menu or the regular one, she kept trying to put our daughter (23 months old) on a bar stool with no arms and no back. When I tried to get an actual seat (it was 4:30, the dining room was empty. The tables were covered with white paper and had little cups of crayons on them) she resisted and brought our daughter a high chair that put her head easily a foot below the bar were her food would sit. She placed the high chair out in the middle of the aisle, blocking people from one side of the bar from getting to the restroom.

Even though I had made it clear that we were purchasing a gift certificate that would more than cover the price of two adult meals and the dining room was empty, we still couldn't get a seat. We finally just ordered full price appetizers so that we could get a seat that wasn't likely to cause our child injury.

Once we actually got a table, our food was amazing and the waiter and the manager were very nice. I found the server very accommodating and we tried a lot of different food. The salads were crisp and fresh. The sliders and polenta were outstanding. The calamari was tender and the kids menu was expansive. Everyone was very pleasant and we were impressed with the experience overall.

Next time -- we will run past the hostess, get a seat and get to the good stuff.

Fun atmosphere, great staff. This place is a gem! I recently brought my daughter to CU and as we were shopping around one day we asked many of the people in the stores recommendations of where we should grab an early dinner. Besides The Kitchen and Ten Ten Brasserie, Jax came up over and over. We thought we would give it a try! It did not disappoint - great wine list, oysters, and service. We just sat at the bar which was fun and casual. Highly recommended!

Overrated. Growing up an hour from San Fran, seafood was part of my life. Not only was it available everywhere, but my mom was a scuba instructor, so we had fresh fish most of my childhood. Many of the best seafood restaurants were on Highway 1 along the coast, and pretty cheap at that, but I've also been to some of the best ones on the West Coast. In Denver, seafood is rare, so you look downtown to the nicer restaurants to find it. Among those at the top the list was Jax. In my twenties, when I needed to be somewhere cool to feel cool, this place would have impressed me, but now, I just want decent service and good food. Jax was loud and overcrowded. My party was sat down so close to two other tables, we actually touched elbows. I wouldn't mind if it was Lazio's in Eureka, or the Sandpiper, where the party sitting next to you was friendly. The food was priced like Kuletto's in SF. The portions were small, but overall pretty good. The atmosphere was somewhat hip, if a little smug, and that doesn't improve the experience. Fifteen minutes after ordering drinks, I finally went up to the bar where they were sitting and retrieved them myself.
