What People Are Saying About Japango

In Short – This techno-chic sushi place offers an escape from the bustle of Pearl Street Mall. The decor of stainless steel and black with swirls of silvery phosphorescence are softened by fresh flowers on the tables and the natural light. Every bite of fish is melt-in-your-mouth fresh, from the creamy, fatty tuna and sweet-coated freshwater eel, to the smooth yellowtail and salty flying fish roe. Traditional appetizers include light tempura, dynamite lobster and beef gyozas.

Best Sushi in Boulder

I have been to Japango several times which have always been good at the very least. Something has changed there.......everything was incredible. I have heard they have a Master Sushi chef in working there, which we asked our server and sure enough they do. I think only Sushi Den has a master chef as well in CO, not sure. The food was awesome, we had the miso sea bass and chef's choice new style sashimi and they were both to die for. We had plenty of other sushi and the Diablo Roll, Sakai Roll and the Corozon which were all great and all probably the best quality we have had in a long time.
Everything else was great.....our server was knowledgeable and super friendly, she was hilarious too but cant remember her name. The vibe was fun.....louder music, but definitely went with the vibe....they were super busy and felt like we were at a party.
By far the best sushi we have had in a long time, and we do sushi at least once a week.......probably at Japango once a week for a while. Oh, and they have a great sake sangria......amazing. We also had a martini with sake and champagne with a cayenne pepper and sugar rim. Delicious!!! Everything was great. Be back next week.
Used to Like...Until I Ate THERE...

I had always ordered the rolls as a delivery. Until I decided I wanted to go out and get sushi and recomended this place as good. The seating is crowded and overpacked and the tables small and uncomfortable made of metal and very alienating and awkward. There were people packed and on my every corner and servers were constantly thus walking this way and that, all in my personal space. The worst part was leaving, after we left, we smelled SO badly/strongly. You are not supposed to smell after leaving a Japanese restaurant; when you do it means they do not change their oil [i.e. for tempura] and is in general a dirty place. I know this because I was raised as a child of a Japanese restauranteur.
- Cons: smelly
Excellent happy hour and friendly, attentive service

Stumbled upon Japango looking for sushi happy hour while visiting Boulder. Had heard of other supposedly excellent sushi eateries in town, but this one was convenient and we were hungry. The Boulder roll was amazing...I have been craving it since. All the sushi was extremely fresh and creative. Our waitress was helpful and very friendly. We'll definitely be back on next, hopefully soon, visit!
- Pros: Outdoor seating, great happy hour
best sushi place in boulder

I've been frequenting all the boulder sushi places over the past few years (hapa, tora, zanmai, akiyama). Japango is definitely my favorite. It has a decent happy hour menu, and it is a great escape from the bustle of pearl street without sitting at a window like you are on display. I am always happy with the food quality. The blonde tatooed waitress Alex is super cute and friendly and does her job well.
- Pros: fresh food, fun atmosphere, great service
- Cons: a little expensive

Went to Japango for happy hour and was very pleasantly surprised. Lots of variety of rolls and appetizers, the fish was fresh, lots of tastes combined together. It was very busy but also fun. Our server has attentive even though the place was packed. I'd like to go back for a complete meal and savor each dish.
