Way over priced, waiter demanded a 15% tip as we were leaving. I could eat three times at Outback for the cost of this place. Food was OK cost was extreme. Save yourself some money and go to another place to eat. Ruined my day when I got the bill blew and entire days trip funds in one average meal. W waste of time and money never ever think of going back. one my top 10 badest ever dinning experiences
Best German Restaurant in Boulder County – My family and I have been frequenting the Black Forest Restaurant since the mid-'70's when we first moved to Colorado and had to drive to Blackhawk to get a decent German meal. I now regularly go to Nederland and enjoy every single meal I have there. Bill and Kay plus their regular waiters of many many years, Jose and Martin, could not be more gracious. The DO make exceptions with substitutions if you ask. When Bill has time, he will join us at our table and tell his wonderful intriguing stories. The menu is varied, not just German food. They have great beer and wine and the ambiance in their "Waterfall Room" especially in the summer time is like going on a vacation. Nice 20 min. drive from Boulder, easy stop on the way to or from Blackhawk and a great Happy Hour spot after skiing at Eldora. Don't miss it!

This week I went to the Black Forest Restaurant in Nederland for lunch with a group of about 25 seniors. Reservations had been made a month or more prior, and we were on time. When reservations were made, arrangements were included for separate checks.
The food was great; I had the beef stroganoff; others at my table of 4 had weinershnitzel or a reuben sandwich.
The service, however, was deplorable. The ice had been waiting in the glasses so long that it had become mostly water; nothing was done to replenish ice.
The napkins were paper; one lady at my table even asked for
Just Like Beimg in Germany! – authentic! You would swear you were in Germany! Excellent German beers on tap! Outstanding German food nestled in the foothills of Nederland, CO. Ask for Frans, the gregarious German owner. He shares great stories from the rind and.
Great Food Great atmosphere – The elk cutlett was tender to the point of cutting with a fork. Everything there is cook to order and you can tell that it doesn't come out of a can. The red cabbage and the salad were awesome. Top it off with some homemade strudel and ice dream.
Bill and Kay are great host and hostess and make you feel at home.
An awesome place to go and enjoy a fantastic meal in the mountains. I will positivley come back again.
Stay Away! – I've never been to a restaurant where the waiters and owners were so rude and uncaring. DO NOT even think about making any changes to the menu - no matter how small. Service was the slowest and poorest that I've seen in years! The pricing on the dinner menu was ridiculously high, especially considering the poor service!
If it wasn't for the mountain setting and the building itself - this restaurant would surely be out of business by the way it treats its customers.
I was with four other people and we all agreed that we would NEVER, EVER come back.
Horrible service/Less than average food – I write very few reviews, but I am 65 and have never been treated in a restaurant like I was today. There were two employees, one less than 40, the other my age. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. It came without ham. The younger person checked our table and I told him. He said no problem, I'll fix it. Immediately, the older man came running to us shouting "MISTER, YOU ORDERED A CHEESE SANDWICH AND I WONDERED ABOUT THAT". My thoughts were #1, I am the customer, and #2 If he wondered about it, why didn't he ask? Maybe I didn't enunciate properly, but I suspect he doesn't hear any better than I do. In any case, I would never have yelled at a customer. As to the food, you probably can do as well at the Pioneer Inn. The bacon in my wife's BLT was incinerated to crumbles. As a final note we had to ask to be waited on by the old jerk, otherwise we might still be sitting there.
Great atmosphere, great food, great place!!! – If you haven't eaten here, you don't know what you are missing!!!
The restaurant is a very unique family owned restaurant, which used to be in Black Hawk, and the owner is from Germany. The service is great, and the price is right for the wonderful food you get! The dinner atmosphere is very romantic, and the lunch specials are at a great price; they are just the same as any other restaurant in town, but you get an exceptional dinning experience and delicious food that you won't find anywhere else. If youre a beer lover, I highly reccomend the Octoberfest, which goes great with the Elk Ragu and a bowl of the Oxtail soup!
Poor service horrible food! – DO NOT EAT THERE!! We ate a late lunch there today, I had always wanted to stop there since I was a child and that was a bad decision! We waited by the door to be seated for 10 min before any one even acknowledged us being there. We were seated in a booth that was right from the 70's and Im sure hadn't been cleaned since then. The place has a musty/ mildewy smell that makes you real hungry... We were given a bread bowl that had bread I'm sure was delivered by Wounder Bread. At this point we had drinks on our table so we felt committed to stay. Our food showed up 35-45 min after we ordered it and was wayyy over cooked. We wanted to tell the waiter but he was MIA for the next 45MIN!! We couldn't even find someone else that worked there to give us our check! We will never go back again! McDonalds is 10 times better!
Overrated – Missed the food I ate as a kid in germany. Thought I'd try this place out, and while it was fairly enjoyable, and the atmosphere was interesting enough, I didn't care for the place.
Weinerschnitzel wasn't as good as what I can make at home...a bit flavorless. Oxtail soup was not very stout. The cabbage dishes were great. Bread basket was nice. Service slow. Looooooooong wait for a table. Number of bathrooms inadequate; had to wait 20 minutes to get in, and had to go downstairs, which wasn't "accessible". Had to go to the concierge to get my ticket. Glasses weren't refilled with drink....
Not impressed at all.
