In Short – This getaway offers ample opportunity for outdoor recreation, including soaking in hot springs; kayaking on the lake; mountain biking, hiking or horseback riding in the Indian Peak wilderness; and in winter ice-skating and snowshoeing. Cabins were built in the '20s and '30s, and TVs, telephones and hair dryers are pointedly absent. Guests have access to a game room, plus spa treatments such as Swedish massages, seaweed body wraps, aromatic steam baths and 55-minute foot treatments.
Best Getaway!

I first visited Gold Lake about 8 years ago when my twin sister and I turned 40. We had a wonderful time! It was early November and there was little bit of snow on the ground. We arrived a little before dinner so we went and had a drink while we waited. The bartender was warm and friendly as was the room. We had a fabulous dinner (great service) and just talked and talked. We then went down to the hot pools and soaked while the wind whirled the light dusting of snow around the lake. It was a sight I will never forget. We were both entranced. We then went back to our very comfy beds (we stayed in Pablos cabin) where we read until we fell asleep. The next morning we soaked in the hot pools again and then went and had a scrumptous and healthy breakfast.
Two weeks ago my husband and I went up to celebrate our anniversary and it was just as magical. That evening we took a short walk to check out the hot pools and then went in for dinner. We had a wonderful meal (I had the salmon and my husband the lamb). The service was fantastic. Our waitress (Shannon) was warm, cheerful and took great care of us. After dinner we went and soaked in the hot pools before retiring to our entrancing room. Everything was top-notch; the towels were soft and fluffy, the soaps and lotions were all natural and wonderful smelling, the sheets soft and inviting. I just loved our cabin (Russells). It made me feel like we were so far away from our Boulder life and so pampered!
The next morning we walked around the lake, took a canoe out around the perimeter of the lake, walked over to the spa (we didn't partake due to time contraints, but felt more rested just visiting the serene building) and then went over and said hello to the new baby horse. It was just heaven.
Gold Lake is a real gem!
- Pros: A real getaway, everything is different from your ordinary life
- Cons: Pricey - but worth it
Wow!

We stayed at gold lake for the weekend after Valentine's day. I spent the days in the spa (the hot rock treatment is divine.) My husband, the rugged one, went hiking. They let him check out an easle and art supplies for his hike. On our second day he sketched the lake and the view of the divide from the not-so-rugged hotpools! What a great place! Our room was so cute (Eve's escape). The staff was thoughtful and friendly. We are hooked!
- Pros: the setting, very romantic, the food
7 day vacation in just 24 hours!
by carri
We went to Gold Lake for 24 hours and left feeling like we had just had a 7 day vacation. It was so quiet and lovely. The hotsprings are amazing, the rooms were nice - very comfortable bed. Plenty of places around the lake to sit and read a book or visit. The massages we got were amazing. The only weird thing about Gold Lake was the dining place. We were encouraged to go by the spa and reception staff but when we got to the restaurant they were upset that we didn't have a reservation (they were empty!) and, for some reason, seemed very confused about why we would be there wanting to eat. Next time we go, we're going to bring dinner/lunch stuff and just have their breakfast (which was very very good!).
