Rincon has gone down hill to the bottom!. 8 years ago this was a fine Mexican Restuarant. I've been there twice in the past month with my wife. Both times we found the food bad. I had a burrito with Chili Verde. The refried beans are loaded with lard and offend the stomach. The chili verde was terrible. The quesidillas were made with stale American cheese. We would not risk it again.
Carry out looked like left overs..
I have been in this restaurant many times over almost 4 years and everything has been great so far until now. Some time ago I went there to have carry out. The dish was really a deception when I got home. It was not the same amount of food you get on the table service. The food was clearly not fresh (dark guacamole, cold rice, etc.), my order was not right once I specifically told them not to put vegetables and they came in the dish and even worse, there was hair in the beans. At the time I made a formal complaint over the phone and they gave me a second try for free which came perfect, although the service was kind of rude...
Today I got there for another carry out. The first thing I did was to put my hands under the plate and the dish was not that hot. I decided to open at home as that was were I wanted to have my dinner. When I opened, I saw again that the guacamole was completely dark. This time the rice had 2 different textures, one on the top and another on the bottom. Really that dried up that heated up left over rice gets. Again, the dish had vegetables which I stated clearly I did not want. The steak was fresh and hot, but other than that, the rest looked like left over that needed to be heated before eaten. Did I mention that the tortillas were in the brand package (of course, not the restaurant)? This time I decided to take the dish back to the restaurant and ask for my money back and the owner (the old lady that greats every client in and out of the restaurant but does not speak English) to prove that the food was good decided to eat it with her hands on the counter. I wish I had a picture of it.
The daughter spent some time trying to explain to me that the food was fresh. She told me that they needed to heat the dish in the oven to melt the cheese and that this made the rice crispy on the top. In my opinion, if the food was really hot, it would melt that little cheese without going to the oven. Than she said that the heat made the guacamole dark, but the only thing really hot in the plate was the steak. I live at a 5 minutes drive and this is not enough to make a fresh made food from a restaurant get that cold. She ended up showing me the pan where they keep the rice to prove that it was fresh but it had the walls with really dark and dry rice, which tells me that it has been sitting there for hours. It did not look like the rice I received anyways.
I really think that restaurant food should be fresh always, because that is what we pay extra for. I don't deny that the dish I got could still be safe to eat but it was not fresh as it was supposed to be.
Very enjoyable. We've eaten at Rincon del Sol many times over the past year and have enjoyed every visit. Their authentic margaritas are very tasty and not made from a mix. The mole is one of the best in town and the ceviche is quite good as well. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
