I made a same-day appt, he was on time, did everything I asked very well, and I walked out the door. The environment is clean, relaxed and nice. Also some neat original children's books in the lobby published, I understand, by Vinny's wife. I recommend, the parlor and the children's books. Really, the books were good too.
I would without a question reccomend somewhere else.
As someone who has gotten multiple tattoos from multiple places, I’d like to give as fair of a review to Claw and Talon as possible. Though there are definitely worse places out there, I could never in good conscience recommend someone to go to Claw and Talon. I made an appointment with Vinny over the phone, and all seemed well at that point. When the day of my appointment came and I went there, he was nowhere to be found. They had to call him, and I had to wait literally almost an hour before he got there.
The process of drawing up the tattoo felt a bit rushed. I got the vibe that there was some attitude about even trying to get it right. Remember, I am not a clueless person who asks for absurd tattoos, I am comparing this to other shops, which hopefully make you feel like they are going out of their way to get the tattoo how you want it. When we finally got to the tattoo, and after a little while, another artist began to set up. Because the space is so cramped HE BUMPED INTO ME WHILE I WAS GETTING A TATTOO. This was actually the biggest problem of anything, I was bumped into hard enough to move me, while the needle was going. As everyone knows, that can mess up a tattoo.
I’m general though, the thing that bothered me most was the attitude I felt from this place, and more specifically the artist. I even got a lot of attitude at the end when I wanted him to fix something up. I’m surprised there aren’t even more negative reviews mentioning this, because almost everyone I’ve talked to about this place had the same complaint about the artist having attitude. I know a girl that was going in to do a cover-up, and the Vinny gave her so much attitude claiming it was impossible, that she went elsewhere. I’ve seen the finished result, and it is beautiful, and covered up quite nicely.
The tattoo itself is not bad, but CERTAINLY not good enough to even come close to making up for these things. The only positive I could find is the place seemed clean enough, and the other employees, such as the receptionist, were nice. But given the hour delay, bump during tattoo, and the giant attitude right from the beginning that very well may have affected the tattoo quality, I can’t recommend it. Unfortunately I can’t recommend another place in Boulder. I have one or two friends that liked Boulder Ink. I know Bound by Design down in Denver is good, I got a tattoo there. Best of luck in your tattoo search, and heed my caution!
fantastic tattoo. I got a great tattoo at Claw and Talon and during my time in the shop (30 hour back piece) I saw many great pieces done by Eric, including one of the nicest samurai pieces I've ever seen. the atmosphere in the shop is always friendly and it is apparent that art is the first priority. whenever the artists aren't working on a tattoo, they are usually painting. this is my 4th tattoo, but my first at Claw & talon and I highly recommend them.
Awesome Environment!. THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING! I love these guys. I really felt at home there. I was scared crapless, outwise I might have crapped my pants. But they calmed me down and did amazing work, he even made it cute annd girly with pink little details that other guys wouldn't even notice. Vinny has an awesome imagination and can just draw out exactly what you were picturing and then it just comes to life when he's done. ! PS I do not like the word monitor on this
AWESOME!. I have been to quite a few tattoo shops but Claw and Talon was/is by far the most pleasant experience. This group of guys, Erik, Vinny and Joe are the most friendly, laid back people. they are very patient, and pay very close attention to detail. They are respectful, hygienic, conscientious, and talented. They all have great energy, and that means a lot when getting a tattoo because you do not want an artist that is in a bad mood doing your tattoo, (trust me) Vinny (owner) tattooed my husband and it came out simply amazing! Erik has done my last 3 tattoos and I have to say...AWESOME! The level of detail is excellent, color is great, excellent artist. Vinny is very picky about his artists and you won't find better ones anywhere else!
My best tattoo, my favorite body art.
Yes! Vinny is as good as it gets.
He's in charge of my right arm, and I've always been *very* happy with the work he's done.
Choosing the right tattoo artist is important - it's a permanent life decision. That's why I go to Vinny.
5 stars.
Awesome Outcome. I had Vinny at Claw and Talon and am pleased with the tattoo I received. Vinny was patient, friendly and easy to work with. He was willing to have me as a walk-in client and did an awesome job. I would definitely recommend Claw and Talon.
Solid Work.
Being 18 and very scared to get my first tattoo, I found a relaxed environment that calmed my anxiety and embraced my status as being new to the tattoo world. My tattoo, which had tremendous sentimental value, was delivered with honor and grace.
Although still feeling new and rather shy, I am excited for my next tattoo, which is newly on the horizon.
Where the magic happens.
Vinny took on a project on my arm that few would attempt, and delivered with great skill and innovation. He is a stellar individual that works with integrity, grace, and an open mind......... I see him having potential to take tattoo to places other haven't dared go.
The shop has a clean, cool, and welcoming feel to it and its a pleasure to sit in his chair every time !!
Solid Work, Lovely Space. Claw and Talon feels more like a salon or living room than a tattoo parlor, it's that nice. (great for calming the nerves if you get jittery pre-tattoo!). Vinny does beautiful work--you can see from the art on their walls that he really excels at Buddhist imagery, but he's also really good at organic shapes and shading too.
