CLOSED / OUT OF BUSINESS

Was fun while it lasted. This restaurant, a Boulder institute for many years, is now closed, as so many other originals.
Juanita's ISN'T the best Mexican food in town
by goa4me at Citysearch
If you want cheap margaritas, go to Juanita's at Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, CO. If you want good food, stay away! After waiting two hours to get seated and get our food, it came out cold and stale. The beef tacos came with cold shredded beef and stale, soggy taco shells. (The waitress was kind enough to ask if I wanted something else, but after such a long wait I declined) My friends ordered the chicken fajitas and the burrito w/ green chile. The chicken in the fajitas was bland and tasteless, and the chile on the burrito was like lumpy gravy, besides it being RED. We did frequent on a Friday night, the first week that Colorado University started back up for the fall semester, but that is no excuse for cold, tasteless food.
- Pros: Nice waitress
- Cons: Long wait, bad food, small dining area
Great Mexican Food

Sometimes the bar area is a little gross, but the food is always great. It is a great place to get together with friends and put $20 in the Juke Box, get drunk, play pool and eat good food.
- Pros: Nachos, Soft Tacos
- Cons: Could keep the bar area a little cleaner
Worst Mexican Restuarant I have ever eaten at bar none!!!
by ricwelch at Citysearch
I've had lots of mediocre Mexican food and some that was excellent but this place serves the worst I have had anywhere ever. I ordered the special soft tacos with pork and it came to the table with small bits of chewy cold pork. I sent it back and ordered beef enchiladas. No luck, the enchiladas had a foul taste to them, sorry to say it, but I think they must be using "Dad's" dog food at this place, awful!!! How they stay in business is beyond my wildest imagining! A friend thought it was a Boulder institution, the tortillas were tasteless, a little like white paste...the side of green chili I ordered had one piece of pork in it, and tasted like it came out of a can (actually it wasn't that good). Maybe the drinks are good? I didn't have one but don't eat here, maybe they will go out of business and a decent eating establishment will fill the space....
- Pros: None
- Cons: Baaad Food!!!!!
This Mexican joint looks unassuming while it serves as one of Boulder's most hip-without-trying-too-hard bars.

In Short
A healthy mix of the college crowd, the postcollege crowd and the post-postcollege crowd. The menu offers only three types of tacos, but eight different margaritas and 16 tequilas. Top-shelf tequilas and fresh lime juice are part of what's essential about Juanita's drinks. There are also plenty of tasty under-$5 items to munch on, like the chiles relleno, a la carte chicken or beef tacos, or several vegetarian options.
Great Mexican Food, Great Atmosphere, Great Drinks.

A local hotspot in Boulder. This is a place that I love to visit when in town. The portions are big, excellent food, and great atmosphere.
- Pros: Great ambience, parking and service. Off the end of Pearl Street pedestrian mall.
- Cons: None.
Great...for Colorado

I'm pretty prejudiced when it comes to Mexican food. I was raised on TexMex, long before fajitas had been put on a menu at Ninfa's in Houston. It's something only Texans understand, and those of us that take it seriously know the subleties between TexMex in Dallas, vs San Antonio, vs Austin. Mexican food is like Chinese, complex in its regional differences and its various north of the border permutations. Juanita's is a fun rollicking unpretentious restaurant with great food and service. The enchiladas are done well, the fajitas are excellent, and the tamales are good too. It's not El Fenix in Dallas, but its far superior than the slop down the street at Rio Grande.
- Pros: Crab cakes, enchiladas, atmosphere
American Mexican food at its worst
by tfk at Citysearch
This is the least authentic restaurant I have seen. Nothing even remotely resembles the real Mexican food you get in smaller places. The cheese is a tasteless mild cheddar, everything is smothered in thick gooey sauces, the meats only your standard chicken and beef. No barbacoa, no adobada, no al pastor, no carnitas. Go here only if you like frozen Mexican TV dinners. Even the chains like Chipotle or Illegal Pete's do a much better job. For a real treat, visit Durango's in Longmont instead.
- Cons: unauthentic, bland, pretentious
A must see in Boulder
by Chynadaisy at Citysearch
This restarant is as much of a part of Boulder as the University of Colorado. Its probably been there that long too. I went there with my mother and siblings for Elementry school graduation, then Junior High graduation, then High school and College too. The food is great and the margaritas fantastic. Its one of my first stops when I have visitors in town.
Very authentic Mexican served here

The best Mexican food I've ever had in a restaurant in 25 years of living in Denver. You have to eat here.
- Pros: Combinations, Burritos, Specials
