not horrible, not amazing!

I checked out China Gourmet sheerly because of the reviews on it here. Some observations i found to be quite true, others not as much. The food is indeed hot and fresh, the price is high for a no-service restaurant and the lines are long. Tucked away in it shopping center, I am not surprised that some consider it to be a coveted find. I only got the standard sesame chicken, which is good (eating it right now), however it is apparently prepared very differently from other Chinese restaurants I enjoy. My main conclusion is that it isn't very cheap ($10 for a single entree), but it is a quality meal. The portion sizes are large enough that it makes up for most of my price gripe. In all honesty, its not bad, but I don't believe I'll be going back. I suppose if you take yourself to be a lover of American-Chinese cuisine, I'd recommend at least trying it.

My Friends and I decided to try some new chinese food, this place was recomended to me by a coworker and had a high rating here. So one Saturday night we had gone to try this place out
I was plesantly surpised, this place was in fact was excellent. Completely casual and local hide away. We had gotten 4 different plates, each one of these plates didn't disappoint. I won't hesitate to refer this place to others.
Now the negative points of this place, first the cash only threw some of us off. Thankfully it was close to some Atm so that problem was remedy. The seating in this place is sparse most of the tables are set up for parties of 4. The last point is the location, it's way up in north Boulder out of the way.
- Pros: Food, price, local hideaway feel.
- Cons: Location, Cash/check only.
Cheap and tasty Chinese food on the go.

In Short
China Gourmet is no-frills: Customers order at the counter and pick it up at the window when their names are called. Tables are utilitarian and close together, but the back room has more space. The place is often packed. From the traditional "Ants Climbing a Tree" (bean thread with pork), to the Americanized tempeh and vegetable, the dishes here are reliably good--and cheap. The "specials" menu offers more choices--though they're written in Chinese.
Order from the blue menu

This is definitely the best Chinese food in Boulder, and very similar to the award-winning Spice China menu. It is pricey for the no-service format, but worth it. Just be sure to order from the blue menu (it has Chinese, but also English). The regular menu is cooked to American tastes.
- Pros: authentic, tasty, convenient
- Cons: spare, crowded
The best Chinese place in Boulder
by dansties at Citysearch
If you are looking for authentic and tasty chinese food go to the CHina Gourmet. It's small, and a little out of the way in north boulder, but it's healty and never greasy and it's made fresh. it doesn't have the feel that it's been sitting there all day like so many other chinese restaurants. They make the best hot and sour soup i've ever had. Go there monday thru Friday for the best value for lunch.
- Pros: Delicious, inexpensive
- Cons: small
