Great atmosphere, great food, great place!!!

by mntnlvr

If you haven't eaten here, you don't know what you are missing!!!

The restaurant is a very unique family owned restaurant, which used to be in Black Hawk, and the owner is from Germany. The service is great, and the price is right for the wonderful food you get! The dinner atmosphere is very romantic, and the lunch specials are at a great price; they are just the same as any other restaurant in town, but you get an exceptional dinning experience and delicious food that you won't find anywhere else. If youre a beer lover, I highly reccomend the Octoberfest, which goes great with the Elk Ragu and a bowl of the Oxtail soup!

  • Pros: BEST FOOD IN TOWN!!!

DO NOT EAT THERE!! We ate a late lunch there today, I had always wanted to stop there since I was a child and that was a bad decision! We waited by the door to be seated for 10 min before any one even acknowledged us being there. We were seated in a booth that was right from the 70's and Im sure hadn't been cleaned since then. The place has a musty/ mildewy smell that makes you real hungry... We were given a bread bowl that had bread I'm sure was delivered by Wounder Bread. At this point we had drinks on our table so we felt committed to stay. Our food showed up 35-45 min after we ordered it and was wayyy over cooked. We wanted to tell the waiter but he was MIA for the next 45MIN!! We couldn't even find someone else that worked there to give us our check! We will never go back again! McDonalds is 10 times better!

  • Pros: Looks kind of nice from the road and good mints by the door
  • Cons: 1970 decor, slow and I mean slooow service, smells

Overrated

Missed the food I ate as a kid in germany. Thought I'd try this place out, and while it was fairly enjoyable, and the atmosphere was interesting enough, I didn't care for the place.

Weinerschnitzel wasn't as good as what I can make at home...a bit flavorless. Oxtail soup was not very stout. The cabbage dishes were great. Bread basket was nice. Service slow. Looooooooong wait for a table. Number of bathrooms inadequate; had to wait 20 minutes to get in, and had to go downstairs, which wasn't "accessible". Had to go to the concierge to get my ticket. Glasses weren't refilled with drink....

Not impressed at all.

  • Pros: ambiance
  • Cons: disappointing service, taste not that great

The management are BIGOTS!

by kstraker

In March of 07 myself and two friends attempted to dine at the Black Forest for dinner. It was a Saturday night at 8:25 and they claimed that the kitchen was closed and no food was left. The matre'd and the manager both rushed over to be sure that we were made to feel unwelcome. Not one pretzel or piece of schitzel to be eaten in the whole place? There were other people eating in the restaraunt when we arrived. I had to beg my friends to come to this restaraunt. It seems that around Ned it is commonly known that this establishment discriminates against it's prospective patrons. If you don't look "right", you may be refused service. I have dined in places all over the world and spent three years living in Stuttgart. The management of the Black Forest is the absolute LEAST hospitable I have ever encountered. If you want to give money to liars and bigots, then please go to the Black Forest. I'll never go back.

This site keeps takeing my review down. Do you only allow positive comments?

  • Pros: Nederland is a nice town.
  • Cons: bigotted proprietor

Great food, excellent service, fair prices, and a classic atmosphere!

I've only been there twice for dinner and once for lunch, but I felt compelled to alert the area to such a great restaurant. They have an impressive assortment of delicious German dishes, all of which are sure to satisfy in the extreme. The meats are prepared so well that they melt in your mouth, in fact, you need only use your fork. They very obviously take great pride in their presentation as well as their ingredients, and, as if that weren't enough, the Black Forest Inn is family owned and operated. To be blunt, they have an old fashioned Oxtail Soup that more than gives a reason to drive to Nederland just for lunch. And, of course, it must not be forgotten that they have a selection of the most magnificent deserts.

Relaxing to the wonderful view and fresh mountain air, listening to the hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower, enjoying a view of the occasional mountain-rain shower, and reveling in such a fine dining experience promises to make for a very pleasant outing.

  • Pros: They have an entrance in the back for those who are handicaped or need a level walk.
  • Cons: The front steps give you the exercise you need before and after dinner.

Black Forest review

by yana21rk

Definetly a saturday deal, drive up to Netherlands through gorgeous wavy roads (even better if you're looking for a great motorcycle ride) and getting there has all the rewards at the end. Food is fantastic, prices are affordable, service is great. The place is big and light, and you will have a wonderful dining experience if you're going for lunch, brunch or dinner!
